Grant Opportunities

Alpha Gamma Literacy Grant

If you have any questions, feel free to call me at (515) 465-2343.  I do recommend mailing the application to me as email from ".k12.ia.us" emails are sometimes filtered by AOL.  Thank you, Sue Leslie

Alpha Gamma is a chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, a society of women educators from all over the world.  Its mission is to “promote the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education”.  Our chapter is comprised of both active and retired women educators who live or work in Dallas County.  We recognize that literacy is very important to attaining excellence in education and one of our missions is to assist all educators in that endeavor.

To that end, we are offering two $125 grants to aid in fostering literacy.  The money can be used to buy supplies (books, magazines, etc) for classrooms, to purchase supplies for a special project (i.e. family reading night, etc), to pay for a literacy related field trip—it is limited only by your creativity.   Entries will be judged by their ability to foster literacy in students.  This grant is available to all who work with students.

If you would like to apply, just fill in the bottom and return to Sue Leslie, 1409 30th St., Perry, IA 50220, by Feb. 5.  The money will be awarded in February.  The names of all that apply will be put into a drawing for a $30 gift certificate from The Learning Post.

Copy and paste the following into a Word document or email.  Send to Sue Leslie at DENSUELES@aol.com

The Hub Create a Story Contest

Everyone has a tale to tell. Bring out the writer and storyteller in your students by helping them enter The Hub Create a Story Contest. You put together groups of students, give them a few Hub characters to choose from and a couple of prompts, and they do the rest. Where the plot goes is entirely up to them. That's the power and the beauty of storytelling.

The winning groups will be featured on the web and receive a Hub prize pack.  You could win a digital storytelling prize pack for your classroom including a green screen, flip video camera and digital storytelling software.

Grant: One Classroom at a Time

Dear Principal/Administrator,

*Please make available to all teachers*
It is hard to believe that we are already a few months into the 2010/2011 school
year. With all the planning for the school year well underway, we at ABC5 want to
know if you have everything you need to make this coming year a success?

Before winter hits let ABC5 and Bankers Trust help you plan. Each year inspired
educators create and organize amazing special programs and projects. Some of these
projects go off with out a hitch and students reap the benefits. However, due to a
lack of resources or funding, many of these ideas sadly go unrealized. Let ABC5
help you bring them to fruition. We have teamed up with Bankers Trust and Prairie
Meadows to help build a better community by bringing you the One Classroom at a Time
Education Grant. We're committed to getting schools the help they need.

By visiting www.myabc5.com and printing an application form or visiting any Banker's
Trust location, you can apply for a One Classroom at a Time Education Grant. Grant
recipients receive $1,000 for their special projects, plus a life-changing cultural
workshop offered by CulturalALL that immerses students in any one of 30 world
cultures. Over the past three years, we've awarded over $36,000 to teachers who want
to make a difference in the lives of their students.

If there is a special project you would like to make happen this coming school year,
please take the time and visit www.myabc5.com and print out an application for the
One Classroom at a Time Education Grant. We at ABC5 believe that education is the
key to success and should remain foremost in everyone's mind. You have the power to
make a difference in the lives of your students. We have the power to help.

Sincerely,

Phil McLean
